The \u00abConcordia, Law and Society\u00bb Research Group conducts research along six main lines:<\/p>\n

  1. Approaches to the Concept of Concordia<\/strong>. This line of research starts from the hypothesis that current political and legal categories are insufficient to capture the foundations of concordia<\/em>. Accordingly, it is necessary to clarify the concept by examining its origins in classical thought and its subsequent development.<\/li>\n
  2. Law and Concordia<\/strong>. This line of research is based on strong evidence that Spain is currently experiencing a process of degradation of the law. The legislature is neglecting the regulation of matters that are essential to social coexistence, particularly in the field of Civil Law, thereby creating a risk of increased litigation whose potential consequences warrant further investigation.<\/li>\n
  3. Digital Power and Concordia<\/strong>. The emergence of the Internet and the development of communication technologies are leading our society to become increasingly digital. Within this context, certain actors are acquiring enormous power that is not always readily apparent. It is therefore necessary to examine how digital power alters social coexistence in its multiple dimensions and poses a threat to concordia<\/em>.<\/li>\n
  4. Concordia and the Media<\/strong>. The media have undergone profound transformation over recent decades as a result of the advent of the Internet. The dissemination of hoaxes and falsehoods creates a tangible risk of discord. It is therefore particularly important today to examine how falsehood can be confronted while respecting the fundamental rights to freedom of expression and information.<\/li>\n
  5. Concordia and Hate Speech<\/strong>. Even where the requirement of truthfulness in the communication of information is respected, or where opinions are expressed without resorting to insults, rejection of the other in general, or of the political opponent in particular, remains a possibility that, in principle, falls within the legitimate exercise of the right to freedom of expression but does not contribute to concordia<\/em>. It is therefore necessary to examine whether a firm commitment to the right to freedom of expression is maintained or whether, by contrast, concordia<\/em> is understood to require the prohibition of certain forms of discourse and the transformation of Spain into a militant democracy.<\/li>\n
  6. Concordia and the 1978 Regime<\/strong>. This line of research focuses on the analysis of the political polarisation currently present in Spain and seeks to determine the extent to which this polarisation is attributable to a national crisis and\/or to a crisis of the institutional framework.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
